Tomatoes in Sep 09

In the months of September and October, we harvested about 50 tomatoes.

At the end of October, I gave up growing about 30 of the yet green tomatoes as the rainy weather had started occupying most of the month.

Over the last years 1 packet of 6 tomatoes typically cost nearly £2.00 in London, however, some food prices become lower including tomatoes and we recently bought  a packet for only £0.70!

I expect all other living costs in the UK become as lower as those, rather than ridiculously increasing ever in the right middle of the recession.

There are some more tomatoes growing the small growing bag, however, none of them have turned to red yet.

Well, I will see how sweet or ripe they can go, by grown in our part shaded garden in London.

Aloe Vera 15 Aug 09

Aloe Vera for Medicine Aug 09

I have got two little Aloe Vera in a little pot recently.

I think the hand made moisturiser is perfect for my skin, as well as meeting the huge saving of money for expensive moisturisers I used to buy 150ml for £66.

I posted how I made the moisturiser recently, here.

The only problem so far I have got is that it seems that the tropical nature plants could be so sensitive – they demand for warm, full sunshine as much as possible while they do not really require water.

In my house there is not no such place. I may have to move the plants in the house every day in the house in winter.

Anyway, I think I have to study about Aloe Vera more to grow them vitally.

The tomato leaves gad got so big that I cut back to almost half the size on the other day.

I expect that the tomatoes are now regaining the accelarated growth with the concentrated nutrients from the grow bag and fertiliser I give them every week.

The small pot of parsley was too cloudy and I have transplanted some of them to other pots a couple days ago.

The photo below is the another pot which is quite large for the herbs and it seems they are happier in the larger space.

I have in fact planted some spring onions which were sold with roots and between the leaves new shoots have come out. I do not really like the green part of spring onions personally, but it is strange that the vegetables and fruits I have grown by myself taste so nice even though they are not perfect in their shapes/size, nor in the real tastes.

Until some years ago, there were no pots with vegetables and fruits which are almost ready for harvesting, or we could not even found hanging baskets with flowers already planted and ready for hanging at home.

How long will it take to circulate price drops to all products and services of businesses in the UK in order for us to comfortably live without concerns of future living costs?

Here are some baby tomatoes I just noticed today. As I expected much slower grow, it was a little surprise.

The tomato plants have started blooming this week.

The parsley is thriving very well. It seems it wants to be in full sun position all day.

Unfortunately, there are no progresses appear in the basil sprouts. Some of the little leaves had been bit all up in the clouds leaving only their stems. The seed packet cost me £1.69, so it was better to grow from a basil pot, which costs similar.

I have heard that tomatoes will  need more sun, transparent umbrella to cover from rains, and at least 4 to 5 more weeks to be harvested if there are no insects or ill problems come up.

Well, at least a certain size of site to grow vegetables are needed to save the costs.

Anyway, this is a joyful experience for me in the UK.
